Growth 101: Right place at the right time. You never know.

Growth 101: Right place at the right time. You never know.

You never know the potential of every interaction.

Each and everyday there are countless interactions happening around the world. I know that when we wake up in the morning, sometimes it’s a hassle trying to put on our game face for the day. Especially if we aren’t excited about what we’re going to do for the day. However in those moments of solidarity come opportunity. What’s important is, how are they being utilized?

So when you meet someone are you:

  1. Ugghh not today.

2. Let’s do small talk, weather?

3. Genuine conversation.

That’s right you never know who you’re talking to.

My SUITS story

Waiting in line at TD Bank, I notice a woman behind me looking rather frantic. I turn and asked,”excuse me, would you like to go ahead of me.” She then looked at me and said, “Are you sure?” I insisted she go ahead of me. After she was done with the teller she said, “Thank you for that, by the way have you ever considered acting?” In my head I said…

I looked at her and then continued, “I wouldn’t say no.” Turns out she was a casting director for the USA show SUITSFrom there she asked for my email, which I gladly gave. Then to my surprise I received an email the following day stating that I will be contacted soon with more details on the shot.

Here’s just a few of the shots of me from last season.

Yes I’ve been a Lawyer, Student, Bailiff, Upscale Business Man and of course my favorite; bar patron chatting with Michael Phelps. Turns out the guy loves to drink Fireball whiskey, who knew?

Granny loves her some FIREBALL!

Point of all this is that you truly never know who you’re talking to and there is always an opportunity, you just may not see it. However, those opportunities will come to you when you least expect it.

Heck, that was so much fun to do.

To sum this all up, be open to possibilities. The people you meet in you life can have a positive of negative effect on you. It’s just a matter of how you want it to be.

Be open, put your phone down (after you read my blog of course) and have a conversation. You may just find yourself opening the door to a brand new opportunity and creating a lasting relationship. The more you spread yourself out, the more you grow. Whether it’s the growth of your network, your personal development or your skill set; it’s growth. If not, you’ll have a fun conversation about the weather.

Thanks for coming by. You stay classy San Diego.

Growth 101: Here’s an idea. Do something with yours!

Growth 101: Here’s an idea. Do something with yours!

FAIL your way to SUCCESS.

We’ve all come up with that million dollar idea. But what do we do with them?

We know it’ll work.

Why don’t we pursue it further? What’s the reason why we don’t create the life we’ve dreamed of?

I’ve been guilty of it. I mean there’s a reason why my family calls me the idea man. It’s like anything, the more effort you put behind something, the more we get. Yes thinking about it is essential, however action makes all the difference. You need to lay out what you’ll do, how you’ll do it and why there’s a need for it. It will all come together.

Yes, sometimes all we need is a…simple plan.

Back to it, you need to have faith in your idea. More importantly, we CANNOT be afraid to fail.

In the words of Michael Jordan: “To learn to succeed, you must first learn to fail.”

When we come up with something, it doesn’t matter what it is, you need to JUST DO IT (see what I did there).

I can speak from experience, I mean this blog is the epitome of an idea. It has ultimately come together and I’m so happy I put action behind it. Initially I was fearful on how people would receive it. But then it hit me…

Never stop because of what you THINK people will say.

Yes, another quote, but hold on to your saddle; this one’s relevant.

Action leads to satisfaction, honestly, just try something new. Growth comes from taking chances.

Well, don’t go to crazy. Actually, do it. Why not? There’s no reason not too. Don’t be afraid to break the rules, laws not so much, but rules are meant to be broken!

Mr.Black (Schneebly) has a very good point. Thanks Ned.

I wouldn’t be where I am if i hadn’t broken a few (lot) of rules along the way.

As Steve Jobs once said: The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.

There are rules to success though. Arnold Schwarzenegger has SIX rules to success.

This video is ultimately what inspired me to follow my passion and try something new. I queued it up to the best part. Watch this:

So let’s review.

  1. Trust Yourself
  2. Break The Rules
  3. Don’t Be Afraid To Fail
  4. Don’t Listen To The Naysayers
  5. Work Your Butt Off
  6. Give Back

Here is a link to the text version of his rules and why6 Rules of Success.

To conclude.

Take a chance. Make that idea happen. Go for it!

Never let up, never give up, NEVER settle!

You have the ability to do great things. All greatness starts as an IDEA.

If you got one, PURSUE IT!

A pleasure as always. Thanks for stopping by.

Growth 101: This thing called life. Do you know it?

Growth 101: This thing called life. Do you know it?

Wake, Skate, Schwarzenegger.

Everyday we look at where we are. We try to figure out how we can reach our goals. More than that, how can we use the present moment to our advantage?

Do you know who you are, what you love, how you’ll grow?

How do you know that you’re truly living? As a serious question; Are you living?

Now I’m not talking about eating, sleeping, working and socializing (yes, even Pokemon Go`n). I mean LIVING, are you reaching your fullest potential? Are you becoming the person you dreamed of? Heck, have you even begun to set goals and plans for how you`ll achieve them? I’m not trying to intimidate you, but there is truly no better time than now to live in the moment.

I’m closest to truly living in the moment when I’m on the edge. Whether it`s skateboarding or wakeskating. Here’s why:

Skateboarding

You may ask yourself, why skateboarding? Well for one you HAVE to be in the moment or you’re going to take a serious spill (setback). You have to have full confidence in your abilities, or else you will get hurt (miss your target). Committing everything you have to your trick (goal) is the best chance you have of reaching it. If you hesitate, the opportunity may pass by. Every move you make affects the results of what you’re doing. Lean too far to one side, you fall. Too much to the other, the same result. It’s about balance. There’s something to that when compared to life. The better your balance, the stronger your growth and progression. Combine that with commitment and focus, it`s a recipe for success.

Wakeskating (Wiki)

When you’re behind the boat, there’s nothing more than you and the water. You carve left and carve right, you feel free. No bindings to hold you down, you have full control of your movements. There is no stress, no jealousy, no anger; only the moment. You are forced to live in the moment or face the consequences of falling. Especially when learning a new trick, or in life when acquiring a new skill. That being said, there’s something to that, the ability to pick yourself back up and try again. You’re forced to be in that moment. In other words, when you are closest to failure is when you’re truly living. Once you’ve met failure, you dust yourself off, learn from the experience and try again.

Reaching your goals and taking chances are fundamental to success. By taking that chance and going for it, you’re already further ahead than the majority.

Hasta-La-Vista Hesitation!

One of the best and most inspiring examples I’ve ever heard, was the story of Arnold Schwarzenegger, a boy from Austria with a name no one could pronounce (yet). If he didn’t take the chance, he wouldn’t be who he is now. There’s always a way. FIND IT. The following video is 12 minutes of the most inspiring tale you will hear. That is, until you write yours.

Let’s take a step back and look at exactly what living is. It’s how we go about each and every moment of our lives. Making the most of every moment while utilizing focus and commitment to find a balance that leads to our own personal growth.

So, how do we get there?

Well, that’s the million dollar question. So go out and find it. Because no one is going to knock on your door and say, “excuse me, all of those hopes and dreams you’ve wanted…well here you go, no need to work for it.”

Thanks for dropping by. It’s been a pleasure.

Growth 101: Change, can you spare some?

Growth 101: Change, can you spare some?

Every day comes with a set of new decisions to be made and actions to be taken that ultimately determine who we are. We consistently fall into the same routine, doing the same things with an expectation of a different result. Take a moment and think about the following.

When you wake up in the morning do you think…

A: Here we go! Time to go make my mark on this world!

Boo Yeah!

B: What am I doing? Where am I going?

Don’t we all sometimes?

C: Ugh, you can to do this. Come on…wake up…let’s go body. Forget it, I’m sick.

Five more minutes!

There are career goals, life goals, relationship goals and of course #SquadGoals. Yet I find myself trying to really breakdown what I want and how I’m going to do it.

Today I’ve decided that I’m starting a blog. I want to be able to see the world and bring my experiences and insights to the anyone willing to read and listen.

It’s new and uncharted territory for me, however it’s a step in the right direction. That’s the key, it’s an effort (no matter how large or small) in the direction that I want. Crawl before you walk, walk before you run. I’m taking a chance, rolling the dice, making change.

There’s a quote from Steve Jobs that really resonates with me, he talks about connecting the dots in your life. You can never connect them looking forward but you always can looking backwards. The video below is queued to his quote. (If you have time, watch his entire speech, VERY inspiring).

You have to trust in yourself. In other words, you never know the potential of every thought, decision and action.

Here’s an idea, DO SOMETHING NEW! If it’s uncomfortable; you’re growing!

Be the person you’ve always dreamed of and never let anyone stop you from it!

This has been a pleasure. Cheers.
